Austin Wedding Photography: Jon & Sondra

Last Saturday I shot one of the most relaxing, beautiful outdoor weddings at the Red Corral Ranch in Wimberley, Texas. Jon and Sondra created an atmosphere for their guest that was welcoming and relaxing. Friends and family stayed at the Ranch over the weekend allowing them plenty of time to hang out prior to the wedding. The weather could not have been more beautiful. I think it was 76 degrees, partly cloudy sky’s and a cool breeze.

The atmosphere was set by the live band playing a sweet melody throughout the evening. The catering provided by the fine chefs and servers at Southerns Fine Dining. was exquisite. The night was topped off by a wonderful slide show/documentary highlighting the lives of Jon and Sondra. It was truly fantastic and it brought smiles and tears to everyone’s eyes.
Caroline and I got some great photographs and enjoyed the wedding very much. I also took some video during the wedding and I will be putting together a slide show very soon… I will post it here in the next couple of days.

Bridal Photography: Audreys Portraits

On Friday, Caroline and I finally got the chance to shoot Audrey’s Bridal Portraits at the Ruby Ranch Lodge where she will be getting married in April. The weather was fantastic and we got some great environmental portraits around the ranch. We Started out inside by the large windows that overlook the wedding area outside. I wanted to showcase her beautiful silk dress in the best possible light. Then we headed outside as the sun was setting to capture that golden light.

Austin Engagement Pictures: Nikki & Silver

Sunday I had the pleasure to shoot engagement photos with Nikki and Silver. They were a lot of fun and we found some wonderful locations near the Twin Creeks Country Club in Cedar Park. I love shooting at this time year. Everything is blooming and the weather is usually nice. I tried my best to keep the shoot fun and enjoyable so I could get some natural expressions from them. I also tried to capture the colors of the beautiful country hillside. The sun was out but it was partly cloud which provided some great lighting.

I shoot a lot with my 70-200mm telephoto lens in an attempt to capture some natural moments between Nikki and Silver with a journalistic approach. I also shot a lot of shallow depth of field using my 50mm 1.4 open all the way. I love the effect it creates on the background elements. Another couple of weeks and everything will be in full bloom!

Detail: Rings using the Lensbaby

This is my first time using my new Lensbaby Composer. It is a specialized, selective focus lens that allows you to select an area of focus in the photo by physically moving the lens around. It creates a soft dreamy look.

In this photo I used it to emphasize the Diamond in detail shot of the ring.  I don’t have a good macro lens but this little wonder is turning out to be a great tool. I used the two Macro filters and the telephoto converter that screws onto the end of the lens. The whole system is modular now so you can just replace elements and upgrade as needed which makes it very versatile.

The photo cane out a lot sharper than I thought it would be. I love this lens and I can’t wait to use it at more weddings.
