Austin Bridal Portaits at the Capitol: Marlene

Marlene is getting married on September 26th 2009! Only a few short weeks away. Check out her engagement photos HERE. Today we shot her Bridal Portraits at the Austin Capitol building. It ended up raining through the whole shoot so we didn’t get a chance to take any photos outside, but we did get to explore the capitol building thoroughly. We found some really cool locations and backdrops for the shoot.
As always, lighting is the most important element in photography and especially with bridal portraits. Caroline helped me with the lighting using a light stand, pocket wizard flex tt5 with a 430ex II on top shooting through a white umbrella to soften it up. For a couple shots we also used a second back light to create some separation and drama. It turned out really nice and I can’t wait to shoot her wedding in Bastrop.

For this shot we used two lights. One shot through the white umbrella from the left and the other one bouncing of the large white wall on the right to fill in her face.

Wedding at the Star Hill Ranch: Sneak Peak

I just got home from tonight’s wedding at the Star Hill Ranch in Austin, Texas. Leticia and Josh are such a lovely couple. The wedding turned out PERFECT, I couldn’t be happier for them. When I noticed the beautiful sunset outside I quickly grabbed the Bride and Groom for a portrait.
I will post the rest of the images soon, so stay tuned.

Bridal Photography: Veronica at the Gallery in Houston

A couple weeks ago I drove down to Houston to take Bridal Portraits of Veronica for her May 9th wedding. She will be getting married at the same church were her sister, Tina got married in 2006. She decided to take her Bridal portraits at a different venue in Houston, called The Gallery. What a wonderful location to take portraits, there were many different staircases and a mix of locations that provided great natural lighting. It was overcast that day so the clouds helped keep the sun light nice and soft. I’m glad she picked this location and I hope to someday shoot a wedding there. Here are a couple of my favorite images from the day.

Wow, great bridals! My favorite one has to be where she’s standing framed by the large mirror and her dress flares in front just so…beautiful!

Bridal Photography: Audreys Portraits

On Friday, Caroline and I finally got the chance to shoot Audrey’s Bridal Portraits at the Ruby Ranch Lodge where she will be getting married in April. The weather was fantastic and we got some great environmental portraits around the ranch. We Started out inside by the large windows that overlook the wedding area outside. I wanted to showcase her beautiful silk dress in the best possible light. Then we headed outside as the sun was setting to capture that golden light.

Bridal: Creative Cropping

Sometimes it can be hard to find a horizontal crop of a vertical image. In this case the horizontal crop helps to add mystery by removing the eyes out of the image. This impacts the viewer in a different way by changing the focal point of the image to something other than the eyes. It puts more emphasis on the ring, and lets the viewer investigate the subject rather than letting their attention go straight to the eyes.

Typically I like to frame the subject in-camera but in this case I granted myself a little creative freedom. It was inspired by a painting series that Michelle created for her Thesis project in her last semester at Texas State.

Engagements: Veronica and Dennis

I finally had the pleasure to meet Veronica and Dennis. Last year I covered her sister Tina’s wedding in Houston. They liked the pictures so much they decided to book me for their wedding in May 09′. We went to Hermann park in Houston Texas. This is a huge park so we spent the afternoon strolling about the park to find the best locations to frame the shots. We had a lot of fun and they brought along their two dogs, Lola and Roudy.
